APL and where it can lead

APL is a way of obtaining National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) by using existing skills and experience. NVQs are a new type of qualification, which gives a person credit for what, they know and can do in a job now rather than how well they can perform in exams.

Instead of having to start again by going back to college or taking a long course (which often teaches you what you already know), APL allows people to use what they know and can do now as the starting point for getting a qualification. It is available to those in work and to those looking for a job.

In many cases, candidates will already be competent enough to be awarded a qualification. In other cases, they might only require a short top-up training course to achieve that valuable qualification they need.

This means that you do not have to do a course or relearn what you already know to receive recognition of your abilities.

Subject areas offered in APL

NVQ Level 2, 3 and 4 in Advice and Guidance

      TDLB Assessors and Verification Award

Other subject areas will be available through APL in the near future.

Assessment

If you can provide evidence of your experience you can obtain credit through assessment by portfolio.

Assessment by portfolio is an assessment process, which allows you the opportunity to gather evidence relating to your prior learning, and achievements, for which you may seek formal recognition in the form of a qualification. It is a way of gaining credit for the skills and experience you already have - hence the term Accreditation of Prior Learning.

Why should you consider assessment by Portfolio?

You may want to get a job.

      You may be seeking promotion.

You may want to change jobs.

You may want to get a qualification to prove what

you know you can do.

     Personal satisfaction.

Support and Guidance

APL Advisers will offer support and guidance to candidates throughout the portfolio building process providing encouragement and reassurance in helping identify possible sources of evidence.
